The Lunatic, the Lover and the Poet centers on the identity of William Shakespeare. In
this film, we learn that Shakespeare was not a single author but the amalgamation of a
writing guild known as Francis Bacon’s “Team of Good Pens”.
The central authors of Shakespeare’s works are the Tudor princes, Francis Bacon and
Edward de Vere, the illegitimate children of her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth I.
The role of magician Sir John Dee, the political intrigues of the Tudor princes and the
role the plays served in the game-playing of the court are on display in this exciting
drama. The tumultuous events culminate in a showdown with the Queen’s successor,
King James I, who exiles the Earl of Oxford to the penal isle known as Mersea Island,
where he continues to turn out plays. But with the publication of The Tempest, the king
becomes incensed and dispatches his assassins to take care of the Earl.
Half-brother Francis Bacon suffers a no less tragic fate when a cold experiment he is
